Haven't posted in a long time...

Well I haven't posted for a while because a lot is going on in my life right now. I am no longer working for the United States Olympic Committee and am in a transitional period of my life. I may or may not be moving from Colorado Springs but I don't know. What I have been up to right now is just trying to sort out life and to keep distracted with Christmas stuff.

I have extra time to actually do things I haven't done in years. One of which is painting. I haven't painted in years, even though it was one of my biggest loves throughout my younger years. So I decided to pick up my brushes and get out my paints and made Micah a Christmas present.

I tried to do a little bit more of an abstract style and since its been a while, I know the painting isn't the best but went ahead and took a picture to post on here anyway.

I hope you all have a great week!

Thinking about Thanks...

I have a lot to be thankful for in my life even though I don't always realize it. I wanted to just write a little here about some of the stuff I feel I need to give thanks for and also for some other inspirational stories of thanks.

First off, my biggest thanks will forever be to Jesus. He died for us all so that we could one day have a place in Heaven. He carried all our sins for us. I don't think anything can ever or will ever compare to that ultimate sacrifice.

In my life I have so many great people to be thankful to know. Whether they are family, friends, co-workers, classmates or roommates, I have such a great group of people and have made some connections and bonds that will last forever. I am thankful to always have someone to talk to, call or do something with. Even when living on my own in a brand new place, I have been able to find people to connect with. I have a great group of people that I work with and recently joined a volleyball team with other young adults. It is hard to be away from all my friends and family back home... but I guess I can be thankful for the chance to make that many more friends here! I have my health, which sometimes falters, but overall is pretty good. I am thankful for my education, having just graduated college. I am also thankful for being able to find a job after that graduation and in turn thankful for the financial support it provides. I have a nice, yet small apartment to live in and I have food on my table. Not to mention a pretty great puppy as well :)

I know I let things get to me, as we all do, from time to time but I need to remind myself how blessed I am and to be happy about what I have, where I am, what I do and who I am. I suppose in writing this blog that is kind of what I am trying to do. I can write this now and when I start to feel down and out, pop this up and remember I have a lot to be thankful for and need to not take it all for granted.

I heard a story today that made me realize how thankful others are right now too. A man fighting in Iraq is thankful not only that his wife just had a baby, but he got to see the birth. Yes, this man who is half a world away was able to witness the birth of his first child, witness the first cry, the first moments his baby was in the world and all through the use of technology. He and his wife were using Skype! If you don't know what Skype is, it is a type of video chat that can be done through webcams on your computers. How awesome is it that this was possible?!?! I found it funny that after the story was told a sound bite from the wife was played and she stated that her husband, even though in Iraq, got to see the baby before she did! HAHA

I have heard several other stories of thanks while working here at the USOC too. Right now as most of you may know, I have been working with U.S. Paralympics on their website. So many of the athletes we cover have inspiring and amazing stories of struggles they have overcome and triumphed through. I wish I could sit so many of them down and interview them personally, because they are so awe-inspiring. It's not only the stories of the athletes though, its stories of soldiers and children too! U.S. Paralympics holds events, such as camps, for physically injured service members and also camps for children with physical disabilities, both of which I have had the chance to attend. The stories from those camp participants are also very amazing and in some cases more so awe-inspiring than the ones of the famous athletes.

I like having this chance to hear from so many the things they have overcome and to hear how thankful they are. Because not only does this make me thankful for what I have now, but it reminds me that no matter what happens-whether I lose my eyesight, an appendage, my ability to walk or my job, or car or money or WHATEVER... there is always something to be thankful for, there is always a reason to smile and in doing so I think there's a way to find peace.

I hope you all have a blessed holiday! Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm ready for Thanksgiving :)

My new friend... :)

We finally got the new equipment in at U.S. Paralympics and I have spent the better part of today (and mostly likely tomorrow and Friday) getting to know this camera.

I am pretty stoked that I will be using it and NOT my tiny handheld now. Don't get me wrong... it served me well, but now Im moving on to bigger and better things.

Along with the camera there was also a tri-pod, cases, filters, light, batteries, charger, rain gear, sun reflectors, a wireless microphone and several other little goodies to play with. I can't wait to get to use it all!

Train the Trainers video...

Hello everyone, I wanted to post the latest of my videos for US Paralympics. The video is over an event that was held at the Colorado Springs OLympic Training Center last week. The event consisted of several military leaders being taught Paralympic sports and techniques to take back to their organizations for help in the rehabilitation process for injured service men and women. Hope you enjoy and leave a comment if you can! Thanks! :)

Training the Trainers!

This week several trainers from all branches of the military came to the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center to learn several methods for adapting standard gym equipment to accomodate service members that have suffered physical injuries. They were also taught several Paralympic sports to take back to the soldiers in their programs. All this is done to enhance the role of sports in the rehabilitation process.

Messing around with photo editing...

Pumpkins of the past!

So because I am going through all these old pictures while waiting on my video to upload for work, I decided to put in a short timeline of my pumpkins throughout my college years. haha!

2005 Freshman Year (made this for my roommate)

2006 Sophomore Year

2007 Junior Year

2008 Senior Year

2009 First non-student year :D

Memories... from when I was "King"!! :D

So I went through some old Halloween photos and have to share this because it was one of the greatest costumes ever! I made this mask and costume mainly to freak out a guy friend who was weirded out and a tad scared of "The King". It worked out great because there was a costume party and he was sitting facing a window, so when I arrived instead of just walking in I just stood in the window for him to notice. People in the party knew and had cameras ready for the reaction! Here are the pictures from that night!

Happy Halloween!

So I haven't blogged for a few days but I am in the Halloween spirit and thought I would share some fun stuff with you all!

First check this video out, this costume is so cool... the ending is the best part though! http://www.ryanseacrest.com/blog/whats-happening/halloween-costume-is-more-than-meets-the-eye/

And here is some pictures of my pumpkin from this year :)

Announcement of Next Work Trip

So I have been told my next trip will be to San Diego! :) I have never been to California and I am WAY pumped for it! I will be shooting pictures and video of a military sports camp put on by U.S. Paralympics. What it is is a camp for injured service men and women to help them in their rehabilitation and recovery. This camp provides them with a chance to learn to cope with their injuries and disabilities and to help them learn that they can still live a normal and fulfilling life. Trainers and Paralympians teach participants techniques and adaptations of sports. The participants are also guided in a work-out to help them to still achieve optimal fitness.

Some sports that have been taught before at these camps are swimming, biking, kayaking, track racing, sled hockey and sit volleyball. I am not sure at this time which sports will be going on at the San Diego camp, but it promises to be a good time. I mean, how could I not have fun? I get to be around sports, be in California for a week and shoot video and pictures the whole time! So basically I get paid to have fun and do the things I love to do. I LOVE MY JOB!

I will be gone Oct. 11th-18th!

I will most definitely be blogging while there! :)
God Bless!

My Chicago Work Trip (this entry is a lil late)

I finally have the pics from my work trip. It was a fun time and I got to stay in a beautiful hotel, The Palmer House.

My trip started with me running late to the airport because of a detour. I made it to the plane ok and sat next to a very sweet lady from Poland on my way to Chicago. Once I landed in Chicago I got a cab and it took an hour to get to my hotel. Which was unfortunate because it was an extremely awkward drive. My driver told me how he was going through a 2 year divorce, had 4 kids and that his wife was leaving him for a woman after ten years of marriage. Then he told me how he is trying internet dating and then let it slip that he is an illegal immigrant. I tried to comfort him and tell him I would pray for him and his children but the ride was awkward nonetheless.

I finally arrived at the hotel and met up with Sonya, my co-worker, and we went and grabbed some dinner. We ate at this nice little place across from a theater and I had asparagus stuffed chicken with feta cheese. SOOO GOOD! After dinner Sonya and I walked through Millennium Park then went by the mirrored bean and headed to Navy Pier. At Navy Pier the weather was just right for some great views and pictures. The boats were all docked and a couple storm clouds were approaching over the sky scrapers. Another cool site while walking along the water was seeing a multiple sailed ship on the horizon. It looked just like a pirate ship!

As we headed back to our hotel I got the chance to stop and pet a very cute french bulldog puppy that a lady was walking and then went into a corner cafe and got a DELICIOUS mango lemonade to take back to my room. I was able to relax in my room, chat with Micah online and watch some TV. It was too bad that I ended up watching the movie "The Mist",lol, it's kind of freaky. After the movie I hit the hay in a king sized bed all to myself. :D

My work day started bright and early at 5:30 am, I got up and got ready and we left the hotel at 6:30 am. We were picked up and taken to the rec. center where the Paralympic Experience event was being held. It was a fun day once the kids started showing up. I spent my day filming Paralympians teaching children the paralympic sports. I interviewed several kids, parents, volunteers, athletes, and leaders. I took several pictures as the kids enjoyed Boccia ball, sled hockey, handcycling and wheelchair softball. I got free Chicago pins, 2 t-shirts, olympic bracelets and a free dinner from Jimmie Johns. After the event we made our way to the airport to head back to Colorado Springs.

All in all it was an amazing time!
